While getting a quote on line is great, be careful that you don’t fall into the trap of buying the lowest legal limit just to save money. A few dollars more on the front end can buy you A LOT of dollars on the back end if you have a claim. Be especially mindful of the property damage limit- most states only require an amount ranging from $7,500 to perhaps $12,500 or $15,000. Keeping in mind that the average new car is over $22,000 and many are worth two or three times that (and more), you don’t want to be caught in a situation wherein your insurance is inadequate. This could end up costing you a lot of time and headache- maybe even money if you get sued over it.

If you’re going to attempt to lower your cost with a higher deductible, be sure to do a cost/benefit analysis. It’s simple- if you increase your deductible from $250 to $1,000 you might save one or two hundred dollars, but IF you have a claim, you just spent an extra $750 in deductible money. You have to ask yourself if you are willing to take this risk AND whether or not you can afford the difference.

Remember, even in a no fault state, the minimum limits are just that... minimum. Many "no fault" states still have provisions wherein an injured party can hire an attorney and sue the at fault driver for their injuries.Good Luck!

I've heard good and bad comments from clients coming from no-fault states. In Arizona we have such a proliferation of lawsuits that one has to wonder how much it affects rates here.
